Are you Ski Fit?
We take care over every aspect of organising our ski holidays, pouring hours into researching and booking the right thing. Flights, accommodation, transfers, ski school and ski hire delivered to your door by Rental Republic! So why do we so often overlook the preparation required for our body? In order to make the most of our holiday we not only need to be fit, but we must be ski fit.
Our friend, Sian, a private Ski instructor in the Paradiski area in France has first hand experience of teaching clients in ski lessons. Here’s her advice
“Getting fit for skiing can make all the difference. Preparation before you go is key. But skiing is surely just sliding down a hill I hear you say!…..well sort of but it requires balance, coordination, strength and agility as well as aerobic fitness to deal with the altitude and the physical exertion of skiing.”
So why prepare? You’ll be able to ski for longer on consecutive days without feeling as tired. You’ll be better prepared for the altitude of a ski resort and you’ll get the muscles you’ll be using to ski warmed up and strong.
What approach should you take? Everyone’s different, so different exercises produce different results in different people. For me a strength and conditioning programme seems to get the best results. It’s also the type of workout that I enjoy the most so it’s a win win.
