At 2,300m, it’s the highest ski resort in Europe, located in the stunning Tarentaise Valley, and is part of the 3 Vallées, the largest ski area in the world with more than 600km of pistes.
With its unparalleled location at the highest point of the 3 Vallées, Val Thorens is renowned for the certainty of its snow. When other resorts are suffering the effects of a short winter, Val Thorens can be relied upon to deliver an impressive amount of quality snow. And deliver it does, even with the sunshine it receives from its high perch.
The most visited ski resort in all of Europe, the clientele is decidedly international and generally very well-heeled. This is reflected in the numerous awards the resort has been the recipient of, including the two distinguished awards it received at the World Ski Awards 2013 – ‘World’s Best Ski Resort’ and ‘France’s Best Ski Resort’.
While the resort sits at an altitude of 2,300m, skiing elevation increases significantly with the highest skiable peaks, Pointe du Bouchet and Cime de Caron at 3,220m and 3,200m respectively.
Val Thorens isn’t only a destination for the advanced skier, however, as there are also a number of green and blue runs for beginners and intermediate skiers respectively. There’s also much more to do here than ski, like zooming down the longest toboggan run in Europe, which at 6kms in length and a nonstop 45 minute descent is great fun for everyone!
